Old People Suck
April 12, 2007Sometimes, old people get into my nerves.
They expect all other people (younger than they are) to give them so much consideration. I don't mean that I hate all or most old people but so far, I haven't had very good encounters with them. That's why I stay away from them when I get the feeling that they're grumpy (but sometimes, you really can't tell just by looking at them).
It's good to give respect and extra care for old people, I know that. But I don't like it when old people take advantage of it. For example, they expect you to tolerate their mistakes, they get angry and judge "you younger generations" that you're so disrespectful and inconsiderate. I'm sorry to say this but - not because you're old, you know a lot about those who came long after you were born. Some old people act like such know-it-alls and I don't like that, because first of all, they can't judge anybody just because of a single situation and second of all, time has changed. Their time was different from today. More often, they think that people from today the same as they did before. That can't be. They'll just have to deal with it.
I have only one living grandparent. My mother's mom. She is almost 80 years old and she still walks around their house. Pretty good for her age (thank you God for giving her strength until now). We are not that close but I sure like her. That's why I said that not all old people are not nice.
We have this neighbor who comes to our house to buy cases of softdrinks. She is an old woman who always wears a silk bandana. I don't like her because when she comes to our house to buy what she needs and she just strolls through our front door without much of our consent like she's always welcome! She keeps doing this every time and walks all the way to the other end of the house! We would appreciate it if she asked us first, you know. It's not good to assume things. And I unfortunately have no guts to tell her not to. She leaves me not much of a choice. My mom tells me just to let her be, because she's an old woman. But i still think she shouldn't be like that.
Once, I was in a pedicab ride with another old lady. When we were already near her destination, she commanded the pedicab driver to stop. But unfortunately, the driver can't because we were still in the middle of the road and he couldn't just stop there, otherwise, he will get in trouble with the traffic officer. The oldie kept telling him to stop while the poor driver had to find a free spot to unload the freakin' old lady. It took a bit of time before we finally found free space, but the damn old woman was already freaking out, asking the driver why he wouldn't stop the pedicab when she already told him to do so countless times!
"Well, lady! Easy for you to say that because you won't be the one charged for a fee for illegal unloading of passengers! and maybe you don't understand how traffic rules go! Why don't you just go to hell already!"
I was this close to yelling at her. But I was able to keep it to myself. How selfish of her to just get mad like that without considering things. Just because she's old, she can't just order people arouund her way.
Another really old grump is our store's "suki." She has a really foul mouth. She curses a lot and she keeps harassing our salesgirls and our security guard when they tell her stupid jokes. Although the jokes are about her and really just harmless, she retaliates by cursing them and saying "go f— your mother" and "my p***y is much cleaner than your d**k (all in dialect of course). Things like that. It's just really rude and intolerable! and I don't want to tell her to stop because i would hate it more if she were saying those things at me! I stay away from her at all times.
Those are just a few of my unpleasant encounters with the OLD KIND.
Really, old people really do suck.

Posted by katstyle at April 14, 2007, 2:28 pmYou’re right about some oldies. I have some experience too where an old man shoved me just to get passed me and fall in line ahead of me.
Some old people are just too shameless and take advantage of their age.
Posted by sweetperceptions at April 15, 2007, 3:28 pmi agree that some old people can be really irritating at times. especially when they do irrational stuff intentionally. some of them believe that because they are old, they can get away with stuff. i know some old people who are like that. i just hope they can “grow up” to their age and stop acting like brats.
on the other hand, there’s another side to this story. they may be doing this to get attention. old people need attention just like a toddler needs attention. they become egocentric. i pity them precisely because they are helpless. and in a sad way i understand because i see what they are going through.
but nice thoughts on the oldies kat.
i’ll link you up. i like your blog. intellectual.
Older people are, afterall, a different species from a strange land that you never plan to visit- right? Guess what-if you are very, very lucky some day you will be old. When a woman gets beyond being “hot” the world becomes quite chilly. The view from the older end of the world is quite different than from your end. A lot of the good will that you take for granted evaporates when you reach a certain age. Women “depreciate” faster than men in the eyes of this culture. Women over fifty almost disappear from the media unless it is for adult diaper ads or osteoporosis medication and over sixty forget it unless you’re Barbara Walters. Our porn culuture has brainwashed even women into thinking that the female is young and attractive or she is nothing. Older women are frequently seen as bitchy and not as the survivors that they are in an often hostile world. In a world that lets them know on a daily basis that they are so over. Enjoy youth while it lasts, but please understand that some people face quite harsh realities and perhaps their feistiness could be celebrated if you look a little deeper -or perhaps a little farther into the future
